HISTORY

EXPERIENCE AND INITIATIVE

Founded in September 2016, SCERT has served as a platform that has streamlined research projects undertaken at Summit School, and as a hub for teaching and learning best-practices in the fields relevant to the education and management of individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs).

Montreal’s Summit School is a private school recognized and subsidized in the public interest by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement Supérieur. Founded in 1963, Summit School services over 615 special needs youth and young adults by creating an individualized and enriching learning environment for all.  The students, ranging in age from 4 to 21 years, present with a range of neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs).

At Summit, we adopt an innovative educational philosophy focused on creating an enriched learning environment for all students. Support staff, teachers, parents, and community professionals are continually collaborating to develop and improve social, educational, and behavioural skills programs for our students that meet their unique learning styles and individual needs, as well as foster their independence. Moreover, Summit School is committed to professional development, as demonstrated through their regular in-services for staff on the latest developments in educational theories, practices, and research. Indeed, every step of the way, Summit School keeps its focus on “Awakening the Potential” of each student who passes through its doors.
